A Dog's Love

A Dog's Love

A dog's love
seems to have no end
When humans want to hate
a dog, simply wants to mend

A dog's love
is expressed each time
Where as humans seem
to leave their feelings behind

A dog's love
is always the same
When humans love
some play a game

A dog's love
we may never understand
For they love completely
that seems lost in man

A dog's love
can only be known
By one who loved a dog
and dog moments they own

Dog moments are special
only way I can explain
They are when a dog affects
both your heart and your brain

Giving Thanks

How quickly does time pass?  One can almost fail to notice as the days begin to get shorter and and extra sweater is needed to abate a chill.  Just last week I checked my calendar for some sort of appointment and noticed that it was almost Max's 4th birthday.  Wait, four?  How can this be?  Suddenly I felt a pang perhaps similar to the one I've seen and heard from my family and friends as their children grow.  Stop growing, I thought.  Please stay this way forever.

On the flip side, it is so nice to have Max at 4 and Bella at almost 2.5.  They have chilled out from puppy craziness to wonderful sidekicks and companions who know the "rules" and usually follow them.  My Braque du Bourbonnais certainly live up to the breed description.

At this time of year a moment of reflection - I'm thankful for the joy that all three of my dogs bring and I feel lucky to have these pups!

Summertime at Sugar Pea Farm

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”
― Josh Billings

Another Spring has come and gone with Summer more than half over.  Our beautiful Braque du Bourbonnais have enjoyed every bit of this extremely mild weather for this year in Tennessee.

In early Spring we welcomed two calves to the menagerie but have kept the pups separated since we're just not sure how they would get along and a 45 pound dog isn't much match for a several hundred pound bovine!

However, the dogs enjoyed their Spring and Summer very much!

And of course, Max is never to be outdone!

And of course, sweet Sully - always willing to share with Bella....

Just doesn't always work out well for him!!

For the Love of Dogs

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare
and love we can spare.
And in return, dogs give us their all.
It's the best deal man has ever made."

Joy Unbounded

With a day of solid rain under our collective belts and more rain ahead, the pups are getting tired of being cooped up.  Watching both Max and Bella enjoying the outdoors this morning reminded me of "joy unbounded".  The following is a most beautiful poem on the the special bond between dog and man authored by Gene Hill.

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds.  He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea.  He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him.  (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.)  When I am wrong; he is delighted to forgive.  When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.  When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.  When I am a fool, he ignores it.  When I succeed, he brags.  Without him, I am only another man.  With him, I am all-powerful.  He is loyalty itself.  He has taught me the meaning of devotion.  With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace.  He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.  His head on my knee can heal my human hurts.  His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things.  He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him.  And I expect I will - as I always have.  He is just my dog.

Miracles

With the beautiful light of autumn closing in, one can't help but take photographs of everyday miracles. While some miracles are more appreciated than others, my dogs are still miracles with paws.
